Day 20: Anger Management

My picture today was more of a way to release some anger.  I had two friends call me today both with family issues to release. Both have legitimate complaints, frustrations and anger surrounding these family members. And of course, any way someone is feeling is legitimate as those feelings belong to them.  As I listened, I was reminded that we all, at various times, have frustrations with family members especially this time of year.  I reflected on these two friends’ stories and the high level of frustration both were experiencing.  We all have these times when we feel helpless, angry and manipulated.  So today, I felt like putting what that looks like for me on canvas.  I tipped over my easel as I jabbed the paint onto the paper!  It was deliciously fun and I managed my anger!

Day 20 Anger Management

Day 19: Ribbons and Me

The other day I watched a video on Facebook of a woman who is a healer. She explained that she saw issues in others as ribbons that are tangled or torn and she is able to untangle or mend the ribbons thus healing the issue. It has been on my mind.  How interesting.  How different.

As I began today’s challenge, I wrote down some adjectives. Here they are: Supportive, protective, understanding, like-minded, kindhearted, spiritual, sharing, intuitive, friendly, giving, orange, yellow, red, blue, turquoise.

And this is the artwork I created.  It has what looks like ribbons and all those colors I wrote down.  I see a brown silhouette of a woman, I will call her me.  Perhaps these attributes are me? Or what I look for? As I painted, and as a brush stroke lost it’s richness of color, it made a ‘break’ in my ribbons, which I went back and filled in.  Maybe I was repairing my own ‘issues of ribbons’.  In any event, I really enjoyed painting this.

Day 19 Ribbons and Me

Day 18: Red Swoshes

Today is day 18 on the 30 day challenge to create intention art. But today, I decided to paint, no intention. I watched a live video on Facebook by a woman who painted her live impressions of the energy for 2018. She was articulate and authentic. I decided to just paint with no intention today. Here is the picture and I am still pondering the meaning. Would love to hear  your thoughts, you can post them on Facebook.com/powerfulart

Day 18 Red Swoshes

Day 17: Second Response

Today is Day 17 of my 30 day challenge to create intention based art.  My intention today was to examine my impatience and wonder how hard it would be to take a step back and assess a situation before moving with my first reaction.  What does a second response look like?  Where does that impatience come from? I’m glad I don’t stuff my voice and with articulation comes responsibility to look for that second response.

Once I set that intention I grabbed my paints and just started painting.  No set idea of what  I would paint.  And here it is.  At first I thought how odd, but then I revisited my intention and it makes sense to me now.

Day 17 Second Response

The very first thing I painted was the darker red line, like the EKG line for a heart monitor. Then I did the series of blue, then lighter red, lighter blue till I got to the green.  I feel like this is the calming blue of the second response covering the red hot of the first response until the green calm softer waves roll in.  It made sense to me, and that is the point.  This is my visual reminder that the second response takes work, but can be done and brings a calmer outcome.

Day 15: Fast Fish

I was pondering my next adventure and what that might look like as I painted…. It is finished and  I am seeing a fish below the surface moving effortlessly through some pretty turbulent water.  This fish feels tropical and definitely moving.  Maybe all the turbulence is created by the fish as she moves. That’s it.  The stagnant waters are being pushed aside as she swims forward.  Looks like I am going to be moving pretty fast soon!

Day 15 Fast Moving Fish

Day 13 Sharks!

Day 13 Sharks

Well, this is day 13 of the 30 day art challenge.  I wound up surfing the net and found Shark Team One, a global shark conservation and marine ecosystem protection site.  They do expeditions to educate and inspire people with the proceeds going to local economies and to fund research designed to protect endangered species.  The site features videos of underwater footage of divers swimming with Tiger Sharks and Hammerheads.  Shark Team One is based in Florida.

After viewing the site, I felt inspired to bring some sharks into my life.

Day 12 Winter Solstice

The Winter Solstice in the Northern Hemisphere. Today my inspiration came from a walk with a good friend on the beach as the sun was setting, marking the Winter Solstice.  It was cold out and we were bundled up, but we stopped to witness the beauty of the sun going down.  The waves were calm, and the breeze was still. The sun slipped behind the island. We were struck that today is December 21st and it is the Winter Solstice.  As we left we remarked that it is six more months till Summer!

My artwork:

As I look at my solstice sun, I see that the rays are circling it instead of radiating from it, sort of like a Solstice Cloak.  That makes me smile as it feels like I can put on a bright sunny cloak on those dark cloudy days and be reminded that Summer is coming!

Day 12 Winter Solstice

Here is a video that explains what the Winter Solstice is.

Day 5: Outside the Box #2

Today’s intention was: I delve deeper ‘on’ the box.

Artwork:

Day 5 Outside box #2

Journal: Clearly I had fun with this concept of the cereal box of art. Love that I wound up with words on the back, where all the ingredients are usually listed.  I did not plan this, it just happened.  All was pasted on the back of the same cereal box in Day 4’s submission.

Day 4: Outside the Box!

After looking at the 9 ideas to jump start creativity posting I did on my Facebook fan page: www.facebook.com/powerfulart I have this intention to share: I explore outside the box to think differently about expressing. How can I convey the importance art plays in creativity?

Here is my artwork for Day 4:

Journaling:  Using an empty cereal box I made a collage with an art inspired theme.  I love that nothing is IN the box, only outside & on the box.  There are vibrant and bold colors to highlight the importance of art making.  ENJOY!

Day 2: I create a Better Day

Day 2’s intention: I create a better day, a bright, happy, calm, loving environment.

Day 2 Art

My journal entry surrounding this art: This experience made me very happy as I painted.  It flowed and I felt light, at ease.  The blue wings are so uplifting as though they carry me where ever I go.  The pebbles along the bottom seems to feel like a path and the flowers look like a version of Queen Anne’s Lace.  The whole piece feels alive with energy that feels safe, peaceful and alive. Maybe the flowers are fire pots, feeding the calm bright energy. So maybe I need many active fires to keep me engaged and feeling safe? Many interests feed my fire.
